diy-lawn-care-help-sourcesLet's face it; at one point or another we've all tackled a DIY project that we may have not been prepared for. We may kid ourselves about our "skill level" when it comes to the job at hand, however it becomes very apparent if we can or cannot complete the task.

While lawn care projects vary in skill level, how DIY instructions are written, and how well we understand them, can help make-or-break a project. So in today's blog article, we've identified the top 9 DIY lawn care resources online, and broke them out by skill level.

    Basic Skill Level -

    1. HGTV Lawn Care Blog - This blog is one of my favorites overall, with practical advice written in a format that features text and beautiful pictures. Honestly, reading this blog sometimes reminds me of browsing through an art magazine. Additionally, they have a slew of other resources, including a wide selection of videos and some pretty complete how-to guides.
*Be careful - A national blog, articles may not be "best practices" for our Ohio based lawns.

    2. DIY Network Made & Remade Blog - Similar to HGTV's blog, this resource is full of great articles that cover all the basics of basic lawn care. Even a novice can follow along with these short, and to the point, articles.
*Be careful - A national blog, articles may not be "best practices" for our Ohio based lawns.

    3. Scotts Lawn Basics - Okay, I know that Scotts Lawn Care Service is a competitor; but hey, they know their stuff. Scotts (an Ohio company like us) has been around for years, and has put together a pretty admirable data base of lawn care articles that tackle the basics. Easy to follow squares at the bottom of this blog separate article topics and make the site easy to maneuver.

However, it's best attribute is that most of the articles are written for Northern climate lawns. Scotts itself is a national company, so do be careful that you are reading an article that is meant for Ohio lawn care.

    intermediate Skill Level -

    1. Weed Pro Lawn Care Blog - I can't speak highly enough about the resources that Weed Pro shares and the authors that write the articles. I know I work here, however Rob Palmer is one of the top lawn care professionals in Ohio, as well as the country. Written for Ohio lawns, this blog covers both basic lawn care issues, as well as diving deeper into specific problems and issues.

    Expert Skill Level -

    1. THE Ohio State ATI's BuckeyeTurf Blog - OH - IO!! Not only home to the 2015 UNDEFEATED NATIONAL FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS, THE Ohio State is also home to THE best lawn care/turfgrass program in the nation. Dr. Tim Rhodas operates Buckeye Turf, a lawn care professional's best friend. Articles, videos and columns from the world's utmost authority in the lawn care industry fill the pages of this "scarlett and grey" blog site.

    2. Penn State Turfgrass Blog - one of our local "Big Ten Rivals" offers another great resource for those pros looking to expand their turfgrass knowledge. Penn State's Turfgrass program is a widely regarded program that features an interesting and informative blog featuring some of the most important issues, conditions, and tips our industry has to offer.

    Organic DIY Help (Bonus) -

    1. Holganix Blog - Weed Pro's choice for organic lawn care products, Holganix offers a well-written blog rich in information regarding your organic lawn care needs. The best part of their blog is all the great downloads that you can obtain, at no charge, that walk you through the art of organic lawn care.
