So Why is Organic Lawn Care More Expensive?

Why is Organic Lawn Care More?Organic lawn care has been around for the past several years, and available through lawn care companies, including Weed Pro, as a package option.  After receiving an organic lawn care estimate, many people ask, “why is it so much more than your regular treatments?”

What is Organic Fertilizer? – Food for Thought…

One reason why organic fertilizer is more expensive is because it’s different materials.  Organic fertilizer isn’t really fertilizer, it’s food for the micro-organisms that live in your lawns soil.  A lot of the food product that’s in it is the same materials you’d find in livestock food, and pound for pound is more expensive than normal fertilizer.

    So How Does it Work?

Organic fertilizer, food product, is actually feeding the micro-organisms that live in your lawn.  In turn, as the organisms eat the food, they defecate, which feeds your turf.  Kind of disgusting, but kind of interesting, huh?

    Other Factors that Increase Price

Again, when dealing with organic fertilizer you are dealing with a completely different product that normal fertilizer.  Organic fertilizer must be spread at higher rates, and cover less square feet than normal fertilizer.  Therefore lawn care companies use more organic fertilizer than normal fertilizer to treat an area.

Why is Weed Control not Offered much with Organic Programs?

The only widely used weed control product on the market currently is corn gluten.  It is however a pre-emergent weed preventer, and is very ineffective.  So most organic programs on the market do not offer weed control.
