Often we here to many negatives when it comes to today’s youth and their activities. While times have changed, it’s good to here about teenagers who are making a difference in the world, and we believe that they deserve recognition for that. We’re lucky enough to have some of these teenagers right here in Avon.
An Island Destroyed
Last year, Corey Furnace & Jeremiah Burris visited the island of Haiti on a mission trip, shortly after the devastating earthquake hit the area. Much of Haiti was destroyed in this natural disaster, and the amount of help that was needed there was overwhelming. Help did come, however as Jeremiah and Corey traveled deeper into the island they found that the more remote areas were not receiving the help they needed. Entire families were starving, medicine was scarce, and their homes were destroyed. Deeply touched by this visit, Corey & Jeremiah new they needed to help.
Love Haiti Fund
After returning home from the mission, Jeremiah & Corey went to work trying to raise money for supplies to make a return trip to the area and deliver much needed supplies. Enlisting local businesses and the residents of Avon, Jeremiah and Corey were able to raise $3000 that they used to buy clothing, medicine, rice, beans and bread. On their return trip this past January, they were able to spread these much needed supplies out to thousands of individuals.
How You Can Help
This past year, Therese Orsagos a Senior at Elyria Catholic has joined Jeremiah and Corey to help raise even more money for this great cause. They plan to return to the region this February with double the amount of supplies that they took last year, and need our help. Weed Pro is proud to donate $500 to their cause, and ask that anyone who can help please do so.
