Spring has finally rolled around to Columbus and Cleveland bringing flowers, green lawns, and... bugs. Just writing this blog article is making my skin crawl! However you don't have to deal with the spring creepy crawlies, because will tell you which insects are becoming active, and how to protect you and your family from them!
Fleas & Ticks - It's the time of year when fleas and ticks begin to hatch and hang around your lawn, waiting for their next victim to walk by. Fleas & ticks not only are painful biting insects, but they also carry diseases, such as lyme disease and others. It's important that you not only protect yourself, but your entire family and pets from these parasites.
How to Protect Your Family from Fleas & Ticks - There are a couple of simple tips that you can use to protect yourself from these dangerous insects. The best way to get rid of these insects and to prevent them from causing problems is to take away the places they like to hang out.
1. Keep you Lawn Mowed - Fleas and ticks love to climb up un-kept grass, perching themselves on the tips of the blades, waiting for you or your pet to walk by. Keeping your grass mowed at an optimal height will keep them below socks & shoe level, preventing them from attaching themselves directly to your legs.
2. Lawn Flea & Tick Sprays - Weed Pro and other lawn care companies offer season long protection with flea, tick, & insect preventer treatments. These treatments, which are safely applied by licensed technicians, keep these harmful insects out of your lawn, allowing you, your family and pets to play safely.
Spiders & Ants - After a long hibernation over the winter, these insects are awake and looking for food! Unless you take some steps to protect yourself, guess who's coming over for dinner? Spiders and ants crawl along the perimeter base of your home, looking for the tiniest of openings to crawl into. Once inside, they have left a "roadmap" for other insects to get into your home.
How to Prevent Spiders & Ants - There are a few different options to preventing spiders and ants from invading your home.
1. Remove Debris From the Foundation of Your Home - Make sure the areas around the foundation of your home are clear from landscape debris such as leaves and branches. Spiders and ants use these as hiding spots, then proceed into your home during the evening hours.
2. Provide a Barrier Around Your Home - Pest control companies, such as Weed Pro, often offer services similar that provide a barrier around your home, keeping insects from entering. Weed Pro's Perimeter Pest Spray is applied six times throughout the season around the base of your home, keeping pests from entering your home.
