Trading In Fertilizer for Paint: Community Service

painting 1Weed Pro has long been associated with keeping Cleveland & Columbus area lawns beautiful with fertilizer and other lawn care products. However, this past Monday Weed Pro's employees traded in their spreaders and bags of fertilizer for brushes and paint cans as they visited George Daniel Stadium in Lorain for a community service project.

    Community Service = Team Building

"We always look to do an employee sponsored community service project each season," Weed Pro owner Rob Palmer stated. "It's not only important to give back to our community, but to participate as a team while doing it." Palmer finds that teamwork and camaraderie is often fostered by participating in programs like this. "Individuals who often work alone on their own lawn care routes have a chance to work together, encouraging them to develop a team work ethic."

    One Of Many Community Projects

The repainting of George Daniel Stadium in Lorain is just one of the many projects that Weed Pro participates in every year. Two seasons ago, Weed Pro hosted a night at the Lake Erie Crushers game to benefit the Blessing House, a safe temporary home for youth, raising over $3000 for the organization. Last year, Weed Pro participated in supporting the "Love Haiti Fund," a local organization that raises money to help keep schools open and provide food and clothing to needy Haitians. As a member of the Cleveland and Columbus community, Weed Pro makes a concerted effort to give back to local charitable organizations.

The perfect opportunity presented itself for this year's community service project when Palmer noticed the fading paint at the decades old stadium while caring for the field. "It just looked a bit faded, so I mention something to the Lorain High School Athletic Director Bryan Koury and the project was set up a few weeks later."

    Repairing The Playing Surface

In addition to painting the home and away grandstands, Weed Pro employees also took to the field, repairing various divots across the playing surface and reseeding the areas. "Our goal is for Lorain to have a great looking Stadium, both the newly painted stands and the playing surface," Palmer said.
