It's hard to believe that spring is only a few months away as we're dealing with all this cold. However, you should be preparing for the upcoming season and now is the time to strike to gather your supplies. So in today's post, we'll go over the supplies you'll need to get your lawn off to a great start this spring.

    Where To Buy The Products

While most argue that any home improvement store is the perfect place to pick up all your lawn care needs, the best place to shop for professional grade lawn care products is a wholesale landscape supply and distributor. Chains such as John Deere Landscapes offers the same materials that the professionals use, like Lesco brand products. While some manufacturers sell their brand in home improvement stores, the product is often a "generic" version of the higher cost professional brand, and can make a difference in the overall health and look of your lawn.

Your Spring Lawn Care Shopping List

Like your spouse gives you when heading to the store, there are many things you'll need to adequately stock your home shelves for this spring.

Here are the more important products you'll need to pick up:
    • Spring Lawn Fertilizer with Crabgrass Preventer - this product combines a nutritious wake up call for your lawn while protecting it from crabgrass seeds germinating in the early summer. Be careful when you spread this product on your lawn, and refer to our FREE lawn care calendar on the proper time to apply this.
    • Liquid Fungicide & Leaf Rake - with the amount of snow cover we've experienced in Ohio, you can be sure that there will be areas of snow mold around your lawn when the weather does finally break. Snow mold is a fungus that grows in your lawn underneath the snow pack. The lack of oxygen and damp conditions cause this fungus to thrive. You'll want to apply the fungicide on the affected areas, and lightly rake them.
    • Pre & Post-emergent Weed Control - planning ahead for your second application is never a bad thing. That's why you should stock up now on liquid weed control to apply to your lawn. I've always been a big fan of liquid weed control over granular, due to the product sticking to the week plant itself.
